Prairie species along the Chief Peguis Trail included in this area consisted of big bluestem, western wheat grass, blue grama, buffalo grass, Canada wildrye, june grass, little bluestem, and indian grass.
The Chief Peguis project is a 3.42 ha prairie restoration project along the Chief Peguis Trail extension. Native tall grass species were seeded along a roadway and at three corners of the intersection of Chief Peguis Trail and Gateway Road. NPS was responsible for native grass seeding, erosion control, goose deterrence, and weed control during site establishment.
